This week in English Language Arts I learned about the subjunctive mood. The subjunctive mood of a verb can express a wish or desire, or a condition that is contrary to the fact. i.e. Use were instead of was. Use would instead of will. Wish or desire: I wish summer were here. Contrary-to-fact condition: If I were a better soccer player, I'd join and play on the team. Can be used to recommend or demand after the word "that". Can be used to show uncertainty after the words "it" or "whether". Demand after that: I must insist that Victor be at the meeting. Recommendation after that: I recommend that Audrey report our groups conclusion. Uncertainty: Whether he be right or wrong, Paul is always coming up with ideas. I'm very happy that we learned this lesson. I didn't understand it at first, but now it's starting to make more sense. It does sound like you are talking in old English or a pirate. But, it is the correct and odd way. Some of these correct ways I will never say out loud because I'll just sound dumb. In writing I will probably start using the subjunctive mood. I'm very confused why this is even a thing in the English language but eh, oh well. Maybe it'll make sense later. This is what I learned in English Language Arts this week.

Cedar Point has a lot going on with RMC Mean Streak. We now know that it is a 2018 project. Cedar Point released their 2017 park map, no Mean Streak is on it. This ride has been making huge progress. About a quarter of the ride is done. One of the inversions is now complete. A source on Twitter said, "Our first inversion is complete" which definitely means there will be more than one. I'm predicting the ride will have three our four inversions. Cedar Point has been teasing this ride since the beginning of this year. Most people are very surprised the ride still hasn't officially been announced. But on April 1, a very ironic day to release a clue to the new, innovative ride. A trailer came out stating, "they're coming". This video was "18" seconds long. This is yet another clue it will be a 2018 ride. Pictures have been released of RMC Mean Streak from inside the park showing progress. These pictures have to be from an employee because the park is still in the off season. The park opens up May 6, a lot more pictures will come when the park opens for the 2017 season. What I think is hilarious is how no one cares about Cedar Point's 2017 project. This will improve the waterpark. But, everyone is focusing on Mean Streak because there's so much more to talk about. Progress on the station have been done. Thank you so much for reading this blog!
This week in English Language Arts I learned simple tenses, progressive tenses, and perfect tenses. Simple tenses are past, present, and future. Progressive tenses are made up of the auxiliary verb be and the present participle ing of the main verb. Perfect tenses consist of a form of the auxiliary verb have and the past participle of the main verb. In the perfect tenses, the passive voice is formed by inserting been. This was something that I had no idea about. Im very happy this lesson was taught because I had no idea about progressive tenses or prefect tenses. This lesson may seem complicated. But it really isn't hard. Tenses were first introduced to almost everone very early in their lives. It first started with the simple present, past, and future. These tenses give more enhancement to your writing and make it better.
Some examples of these tenses are: Present Progressive: He is playing soccer. Past Progressive: He was playing soccer. Future Progressive: He will be playing soccer. Present Perfect: Mateo has eaten a cupcake. Past Perfect: Mateo had eaten a cupcake. Future Perfect: Mateo will have eaten a cupcake by 5:00 pm. Something I learned this week in English Language Arts is the proper use of commonly confused words. These words include laid and lied, teach and learn, and more. I also learned about how to use linking verbs correctly in a sentence. Another thing I learned is how to use hyphenated modifiers. The difference between laid and lied is that one is when you're laying something down and the other is when you lie in a relaxed position. The difference between teach and learn is teaching is when you are giving knowledge, learning is reviving knowledge. Linking verbs can be complicated, sometimes they are confused with other parts of speech. Examples of linking verbs are am, is, are, was, were, being, been, appear, become, feel, grow, look, remain, seem, smell, sound, stay, taste, and turn. All of these are linking verbs. Hyphenated modifiers are used to continue words, split up words, and combine words. This is what we learned in English Language Arts.
The (PRODUCT) RED iPhone was recently launched by Apple. The (PRODUCT) RED iPhone is obviously red. With every red iPhone 7 & 7+ sold Apple donates a portion of the purchase to AIDs research and to "Create The First Generation AIDs Free". This is a nice color option for everyone who buys iPhones and it creates a nice atmosphere knowing that a large company is donation to a cause. (PRODUCT) RED was introduced first in the App Store in 2014. Apple made sure that with every app bought so,e of the money woukd go to AIDs. Apple also partnered with other application developers to make sure a portion of all in app purchases went to help AIDs. For example, Clash Royale by Supercell in 2015 launched a (PRODUCT) RED pack which included a red tower and other cool items. As you may have noticed red is the color for AIDs. In my opinion Apple is doing a great thing for AIDs and seeing a large well known company do something like that is just very heartwarming to see that people care.
This week in English Language Arts I learned how trash can be dangerous to our environment. In class each group gave a presentation on the book Tracking Trash. The powerpoints were presented and we took notes. It was sad to see how many human involved accidents have happened to kill animals, species, and life. Society is just now stepping up to get behind this cause that has been a problem for a long time. This ties in to a writing assignment that we did this week on FrontRowEd. This assignment was all about endangered species. Humans are creating way to many extinctions for species that should've lasted longer on Earth. Earth is a home 9.3 million species yet we almost always just think about ourselves, humans. We need to make this the generation that ends unnecessary pollution and end human related animal extinctions.
Cedar Point, and amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio is making a new rollercoaster that will smash records and defy the "limits" of a rollercoaster. Rocky Mountain Construction will be manufacturing the ride, the company has created many other stunning attractions including Twisted Colossus, Iron Rattler, and New Texas Giant. This Rocky Mountain Construction coaster is going in one of the most popular, well known amusement parks in the country. Who take things beyond the limits. For example, in the year 2000 Cedar Point made the debut of Millennium Force, the first ever Giga Coaster. For those of you who don't know a Giga Coaster is a complete circuit rollercoaster that has a height between 300-399 feet. This coaster put Cedar Point on the map. Then, in 2003 Cedar Point made the debut of Top Thrill Dragster. Which was the first ever strata coaster (complete circuit, 400-499 feet tall) reaching speeds of 120 mph. After that Cedar Point has added many record breaking, gravity defying attractions which will be known for ages. Now, RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction) will be building an I-Box track conversion for Mean Streak, Cedar Point's largest wooden rollercoaster. It will be a steel hybrid which will most likely be 180 feet tall and reach speeds of 80 mph with three inversions and many airtime moments. Cedar Point will be bringing in a record breaking champion which will please crowds for years to come.
This week in English Language Arts is that school is stressful and hectic die. It stresses people out, especially at the end of the Trimester when the stress levels are almost double. All of this stress is stacked on top of projects that are due. Everyone needs a break for a while, now if everything wasn't crammed into the same week we wouldn't have this problem. School can be hard sometimes and it angers people sometimes. This work is hard, and that's life. But, we all need a break once and a while. I am so glad this week is almost over and it is time to start fresh and new. English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science have been the craziest, but English Language Arts has been more chaotic than any of those subjects.
In English Language Arts this week I learned that Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are ways to persuade people. Ethos uses ethical ways to persuade you, including stats, information, and has a credible source. When a doctor gives you a pill you trust them because they have credibility. But, most people don't trust someone like a random person from off the streets and walks up to you to give you a pill. That is Ethos. Now, also in English Language Arts I learned all about Pathos. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an argument by creating an emotional feeling. Some emotions consist of being sad, happy, worried, and more. In many insurance commercial make you feel scared so you can buy insurcance. Another sratagey with persuading is Logos. Logos have to do with logic, it persuades the audience by reason.
This week out in the world the first ever Superbowl in history to go into overtime has happened. The Atlanta Falcons were dominating the New England Patriots in the first half. After the half time show, the game really started to become alive and more exciting. The crowd was going insane and it was a really fun game to watch. Then in the third quarter the Patriots started to come nack and score more touchdowns. At one point in the game the Atlanta Falcons were beating the New England Patriots by twenty five points. But, in the fourth quarter the New England Patriots came and tied the game up and made the first Superbowl EVER to go into a game this close and make it into overtime. After, the New England Patriots won the Superbowl. This was a truly amazing thing to watch happen. In my opinion I didn't care who was going to win, all I wanted to see was a good game, and I saw one of the best games in history. I, personally did not get so see the first quarter and part of the second quarter because I was at Magic Mountain but, it was a good game.
